Can I ditch taking the Hippocratic Oath

srl5794's picture

It happens to be against my religion(judeo-christianity) to take any such oath, as it is associated with idolatry. Not to mention that I am no huge fan of Hippocrates. So would it possible to be excused from this ritual?

just pretend you are taking it, it is not worth the trouble of saying that you don't want to take the hippocratic oath. Even though your beliefs may be different it is not worth the trouble

The main purpose of the oath is for the doctors to dedicate their lives towards the profession.Implementation of the guidelines is more important than just orally reciting the oath. U can always skip the points which reflect against your religion

jackyboy:

Well, all doctors have moral obligation to best serve there patients, if you fell live you have work equally well without taking the oath, then I think there is as such no need. Its just a formality.

Arjun:

I agree with jackyboy..As long as you pledge to server your patients with care, as if they were your own family, all is cool, no oath is required.
